HARBOR ME is about what happens when a teacher insists that six middle schoolkids—black, white, Latino–have to meet weekly by themselves, with no adults to listen in. Feelings run high as the kids work out ways of communicating.
Jacqueline Woodson, the writer of books for children and adolescents, is known for her Newbery Honor- winning titles including Brown Girl Dreaming, She won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, one of the most prestigious children’s literary awards in the world. In 2020, she was named a MacArthur Fellow. They recognized her for “redefining children’s and young adult literature in works that reflect the complexity and diversity of the world …”
The novel will be read by actors, including Chantez Engeleit.
Chantez Engeleit received her training at The
American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New
York City, She has performed in various plays, musicals, and films around NYC and the Hudson Valley including the Center for Performing Arts at Rhinebeck.
